Muhammad Jami - Worst of Days
Steven: It's a nice upbeat fun song, but I don't know if it's catchy enough. At the end, you want the viewers to have that song stuck in their head. If not, people can forget it. Unfortunately, I didn't find it in that "it's in my head, can't stop singing it" mood. The song is good, but maybe the next time, the song would like pop out more. It sounds radio-friendly, but it can't catches the ears, it can have some trouble on the charts. It does have some potential in it, but I just hope that the song could have been a lot catchier. Because all I can remember is that first line of the chorus "I just wanna have fun..."
Dean: Muhummad, cool video! The song serves well as a demo but I think on a final version of the song it could use some backup vocals and some more punch and polish to make it sound more professional. You have a maroon 5 kind of vibe, slightly rock, slightly funk. Overall, pretty decent job.
Charly: This song out of all the tunes is the catchiest and rmost radio friendly. It would probably appeal to the younger generation that is for sure. Getting over that girl who you tought you liked is a very relatable topic. Your vocals were good, but to me...you still sound a little bit to tight in the throat. I think if you can sing more from your diaphragm rather than your throat, I think you will sound more relaxed. But personality and style, you have.
Tracy Lynn - My Love Will Love You Still
Steven: It's a really nice sentimental soft song. But it was too safe for me. It's a lovely song, but I would have loved to see a more dynamic Tracy instead of the same soft, slow stuff for the past 3 weeks of the Finals. Go for it, and show all the colors to your voice, because we all know you have the dynamic. Don't be a one-trick pony. You have to take some risks in order to win this competition. You have an enormous potential to make in the Ultimate 2, but you need to intensify your game by showing what great things Tracy can do.
Dean: Another song with a lot of potential, this one kind of reminds me of "Where've You Been" by Kathy Mattea. I don't see you listed in the songwriting credits, so I'm not sure if this is your original. Nice song, nice video. Nothing really wowed me.
Charly: Great song for your voice and well written for the country genre. You sang well, but that said...I think a different key would have possibly suited you better. Possibly a higher one....just so when you nail it...it would be much more rewarding vocally. If its too safe, make it more challenging for you.
Laura Broad - I'm Telling You
Steven: Just a great job indeed. It's one of those songs that has a lot of good potential. The song was almost like a novel or a book, it builds up to a climax and then you hit the chorus and you shined. Out of all the songs, this one to me is the most mainstream and likeable by anyone. It was very catchy and if it is...it'll stick. There are a ton of songs out there in the charts...something like this has some potential to do fantastically well. The only thing I hope for the finale, if you get there, is that the backtrack wouldn't be so midi-like; the arrangement is good...but change the midi sound into a more non-midi sound...so it sounds more refreshing so it accommodates your voice more. But anyways, you did a great job. Keep this up, and you can win this big time!
Dean: wow.. this song is incredible Laura! I can only imagine how incredible it would sound in studio with orchestral elements. I think of all the songs, this one has the most potential for me. The video was pretty suiting for the song too. Hands down, my favorite of the night!
Charly: Great vocals as usual and I love the lyrics that you helped write. The beginning of that song reminded me of a type of song Celine would do and I can easily hear you do those types of songs. Chorus, I liked the lyrics.....personally, I didn't like the chorus how it was arranged, but it was a well put together presentation.
Erica Roane - Fly Away
Steven: It's a good song, but I don't know if it presented you the best way. The bluesy grit and great tone was kinda lost a bit in this selection. But at the end, it was more of the song than you. Get something that fits you to a T and shows Erica what she's all about and what she can do. The song was overall boring...and when it frictions to the energy and excitement you give to your performances...it affects you the most because you needed to accomodate the song. Let the song accomodate you instead because I just felt the song was not the best thing for you.
Dean: Perhaps I'm wrong but I thought the idea of originals week was that you would write (or co-write) and perform your own original song. This song was written and originally recorded by Jumoke Hill. Though your version wasn't bad, I don't know if it was necessarily the best fit for your voice or personality. It was my least favorite of the videos but you definitely deserve to be here and based on an overall performance in this competition I think you will likely continue.
Charly: My problem with you and this song is that it doesn't mesh well together. I would have loved for your tone to be softer. Remember, you have that rough, gritty bluesy tone that works well in some songs...but not so well in softer songs like this one. You have to find a way to work with the composer to come up with an arrangement for suited to you...or work on softening your tone done a little more to fit the exact mood of the song.
