Look at the website and YOU CAN VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON! It's a first on Sim Idol! So get voting! lol.
Judges Comments this week:
Erica Roane - “Old Time Rock and Roll”
Steven: Love the song choice, love the performance, and love the sunglasses worn in this performance. You sang the song with that attitude of showing us some great old rock and roll. And I'm glad you prove Charly wrong, because you are a contender to win this in my opinion. you've been consistently good. And this performance was probably your best. Although timing was off some spots, you know not only how to sing, but to feel the song and adapt. That's so important in a recording artist. When it comes to adapting and loving music the way it is, you definitely show it. Fantastic job!
Dean: Great Energy Erica! But your timing on this track was a mess. I don't know if you sang it that way or if you just accidentally shifted the vocal while you were recording. You're a half second early on all of your vocals after the first verse and it's too bad because your vocal performance sounded really good.. but the fact that it was off the beat was distracting. Watch your timing. Good song choice for your style!
Charly: First off, MUCH BETTER song choice for you. You started off real strong, and for the most part, you stayed that way. Having said that, I wasn't as impressed as Steven was though, and here is why. I dunno if it’s a mixing problem or a singing problem, but as the song went on, your timing was off. When your timing gets to the point to where it is off the rhythm, its sounds like you are off when you actually aren't. If the timing wasn't off, I would have enjoyed this more. BUT...I still did enjoy this despite the timing issue.
Suzanne Lanoue – “I Feel Pretty”
Steven: You are a breath of fresh air. This was the perfect song and it was a great performance. This performance showed your personality, operatic range, and your fun side. When you feel the performance, you nail it on the spot. Last week, the spark was sucked out. This week, the spark is back. This is your personal best performance despite a few sharp notes. It was a pleasure to hear this and you took what we said, and you showed everything you had in this performance. Great way to redeem yourself and very good job! To me, this was your personal best!
Dean: You never fail to surprise with your song choice. An ambitious performance for sure. It's impressive you can sing so high up in your upper registers but I don't know if this song choice is going to win over the voting audience. Kudos to you for usually taking risks with your song choice. You stand out in that respect.
Charly: Thanks a lot, Suzanne. Every time I hear that song, I get thirsty and crave for an Aquafina. Anyway, love the colors of your voice in this song. Listening back last week, you were sharp at points. But I disagree with Steven, I didn’t think your were sharp at all this week. Now doubt, you were at your comfort level this week. I still think though you have to find a way to merge the highlights of your voice to other songs. I say that because you can’t win the competition like this by singing these types of songs all the time. However, in other types of songs, you have to mesh well while still keeping a sense of flow and your style in the song (like you displayed in Downtown Round).
Jake Dee – “Part-Time Lover”
Steven: It was a predictable choice knowing you, but that song is all about control and authority. And I felt you didn't take charge of the song. You were just flowing with the song as a back-up vocalist in my opinion. And although your vocals were good, I felt the authority you had in this performance was lacking a bit. Maybe you could have done more with this song. It wasn't my favorite performance but it was good.
Dean: Though I think you have an interesting voice and I've been a supporter previously I felt like this performance was really dull. You have a nice tone but you sounded really bored singing this song and there wasn't any passion there that was audible. Perhaps not the right song choice for you.
Charly: Somehow, I just knew you were going to pick this song. I liked it. It fits your style and you tried not to sing it exactly like Stevie. I like the smoky feel you put to the song. However, the thing is that smokiness and diction gets muffled and I think I may now know why. In this track, it sounded like your were trying to keep up with the pace in the music, and when you did, you lost that breath support. I think that if you work on that, you may potentially be a dark horse to win this thing.
Aaron Lawrence – “Glory of Love”
Steven: To be honest, this song was not a good choice. I can see why you hated this because this song is too iffy for your style and vocals. Pitch-wise, you fell a bit flat in some parts. But this song is just off of your comfort zone by light years. I wished you could have picked a song that suited more of your unique style and tone because this song does absolutely nothing for you. You should be tackling something that you can tackle. Personally, I can't see you singing this song as a recording artist. And although you tried to make this your own with your tone and style, this song was a bit too inflexible in my opinion. Choose flexible songs and songs that fit that unique tone and style. It was okay.
Dean: I think you kind of butchered a classic song here Aaron I'll be honest. It felt like you didn't know the song and you improvised the melody. Your enunciation was terrible and the little timing tricks you kept pulling sounded awkward and out of place. Your range isn't capable of making this song shine the way it could have. I think it was a bad BAD choice for you.
Charly: First off, very VERY ambitious choice of song to sing.. I liked the fact that you actually tried to make the song your own, and it is very clear. The one thing I would watch is to be more consistent in your singing. In the first part, you sounded very clear and smooth. Then the chorus hit, and your diction was mumbled and there were parts you strained to hit the higher notes. However, it was very evident that you gave it your all and you put yourself in that song. I thought you did OK with this song.
Katie Memmont – “Everything I Do”
Steven: I think the song was just too big for you Katie. The vocals of Bryan Adams are just too strong for you to attack this song. And the emotion is the biggest component of this song. And the emotion was lost. It seemed you were singing the song and not feeling the song. Plus 1991 wasn't a good year too...and thank you for not choosing Mariah Carey's Emotions...lol. But still the song was too strong vocally. And although you took the route of projecting your voice further, I want you to emote and feel the song. "Everything I Do" is about someone who will have commitment, trust, and love for his/her spouse and will do anything for him/her. Fight for him/her, die for him/her, do anything for him/her. Maybe this song could have been too old or too mature for you. My suggestion to pick a song that doesn't feel too mature or old for your style. So you really have to be careful to pick songs that fit not only your voice but your youth. And emote! It was okay.
Dean: Katie, like Theresa this week I think you really showed your age. Up against powerhouse voices who've had time to find their style and develop and hone their skills yours sounds distinctly more shaky and unsure. This is certainly normal for someone at your age. I recall being 14 and I couldn't do half the things with my voice that I can do now. It's hard to hold it against you since it's out of your control but it's about choosing songs that better fit your style and yeah, even your age.
Charly: You took two steps forward with My Immortal and then two steps back with this. Katie, I felt this was a pageant performance. We know you have the talent, but you didn’t have the raw emotion to carry the song. In fact, the song itself is very safe, doesn’t really show off the voice. Plus, every time I hear it on the radio… >_<. I know you have more in you and we saw it in the semis, but now is not the time to be holding back.
Theresa Coleman – “Listen to Your Heart”
Steven: Joanna McCormick (3rd placer; Season 1) made this probably her signature song last year and it's tough to do something that was as great as or better than that performance. Although you attempted to make this your own by playing around with some of the notes, you tend to go flat or sharp with it. The Roxette version wasn't the best one. Maybe with DHT's slower version (solo piano) of the song could have allowed you to show yourself vocally and emotionally b/c of the bit of similarity between the tone. So potentially, this could have been a great performance if you tried hitting those notes, singing DHT's piano version. But knowing you have to sing the 1989 version, you could have sung it more of DHT’s style. It was just alright.
Dean: Technical stuff like pitch was fine throughout most of this track and you did your own thing with it which was nice to hear, however something about this song really showed how young you are and how immature your voice still is. Skill, control, and natural instincts for performing improve with age. For me, this performance has shakiness and uncertainty written all over it.
Charly: AWW! I still remember Joann from the first season tackle this song and it was awesome. For Theresa, I don’t think this was the song for you. I think like Katie, you held back and you were too safe with the song. It’s like when we first saw you, you stood out with your voice and tone. Now, each week, it seems that I am losing what makes you stand out. When that happens, you become forgettable and that is not what you want to be in a competition like this. Think back to when we first saw you and find songs to play to your strengths.
Elisha – “This Masquerade”
Steven: The only problem I had is that this song by George Benson is a bit too stylized, and you were taking a huge risk in my opinion. And although you sang it the way it was, I liked the ending a lot. This gets interesting because I felt the interpretation was different than the original soulful style George Benson did. This was sexier in my opinion than soulful. So great interpretation! I think you pulled this off in my opinion. So great job!
Dean: I love when you perform classic loungey type stuff. You get that sex kitten sultriness in your voice. The way you slip up and down in your range effortlessly was nicely displayed on that high note at the end. Flawless performance. Outstanding! Best of the night, hands down!
Charly: This was a treat to hear because I never got the chance to hear the lower registers in your voice. You sounded very comfortable. You have INCREDIBLE range and you picked a song that really showed that off. Love your jazz feel in this song and is this the sign that this is "Elisha"? It sounds like it, alright! I wasn't too crazy about the song choice, but you can't deny that you did your thing.
Mollie Evans – “Faithfully”
Steven: In the words of Charly Timmer, this is truly the best performance of the season so far. The emotion was spot on, you felt the song, I felt the emotion, and this is great as the original; if not better than the original by Journey. The emotion is what I felt and just hearing you sing this tells us this is truly an important song to you. You are truly a standard we look up to in the competition now. You showed emotion, the balance of power and softness. This performance was so genuine, modest, emotional, and powerful. That's what I love about you Mollie in this competition! Best performance so far this season and a masterful job indeed!
Dean: You always bring the star search moments. Big held out notes, power and gusto. I'm still waiting to hear something soft and subdued from you. I honestly feel like we only ever get one side of your voice. You're one of the best voices we have here but I know there's more to it than just big beltiness! Good choice of song but let's change it up a little.
Charly: I have a right to change my mind. And I changed my mind about your performance last week being the best performance of the season thus far. That’s cuz…..THIS one is now the best of the season this far. You had a great connection with this song, and I can hear it in your voice. You have that powerful strength in your voice that carries this song with emotion, BUT you softened your belts. GIRL, YOU RAWK! This was near flawless and you just continue to grow as a vocalist. Not much more I can add.
